We anchored in a calm bay off a small gem of a Caribbean island for the weekend. The warm crystal clear azure waters were calm and inviting. I was anxious to sunbathe and sip champagne but our superyacht host was more excited to introduce us to his new exotic toy collection. Flashbacks from my childhood immediately came to mind with my father always wanting to one-up our neighbors by having the latest and greatest luxury toys to show off.
The collection of toys on our yacht from a massive water slide to a floating island were impressive and after sampling a prototype of a new hovercraft, I was compelled to put together the best of the best for 2015 for the billionaire superyacht owner and beyond.
The world’s first all-electric hydrofoiling PWC, the Quadrofoil will hit the water this Spring. Set to be one of the biggest superyacht toys of next year, the Quadrofoil performs like a hydrofoil but has zero emissions and doesn’t create waves.
The first model, Q2S, flies above the waves at a top speed of 21 knots and has a range of 100km, great for exploring shallow and protected bays without impacting the environment. Made with composite materials and a lightweight hollow hull construction, the Quadrofoil has specially shaped water wings that take it above the water at only 6.5 knots.
Quadrofoil watercraft, developed and produced by the Slovenian company with the same name, is an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient personal watercraft that flies above the water with the help of underwater hydrofoils. When driving, it produces no gas, noise or oil emissions, and consumes less than 1€ worth of electrical energy per hour of driving. It is also safe to use and causes no harm to the environment, while its shape is extremely appealing. $25,000
The SuperPool is a predominantly inflatable luxury island with a safe netted pool inside which can be set up just off a beach or off the yacht. The SuperPool can be made to any size and has the option of having removable inflatable floor sections (which can be covered in teak) that can be placed in any configuration giving endless possibilities for different layouts and pool sizes. A removable bimini with carbon poles tops the pool off and teak decking, cool boxes, uplights can all be specified to create a completely custom Superpool.
The ultimate in luxury, the SuperPool gives clients the chance to have their own personal space away from the noise and smells of exhausts and provides a lounging platform that can be set up just off a beach, or anchored off the yacht. The whole unit is inflatable, including the floors and can be rolled up and stored on board. The floor pieces are removable and can be placed in any configuration giving endless possibilities for layout and modifying the pool size. There is an option to deck out the whole pool to create a highly individual party venue!
New for spring 2015 is the Radinn Electric Wakeboard. Created by a pair of Swedish entrepreneurs, the current prototype boasts a carbon fiber body (total weight is 64 lbs.), a salt water-resistant jet propulsion system, and lithium battery pack that helps send you slicing through the water up to 29 mph. That speed is expected to be faster in the final version of the product. A handheld wireless and waterproof remote controls your speed, while the battery stays dry in a watertight compartment. It’s also removable in case you need to pop in a spare, as the makers say it should get you between 45 and 60 minutes of mixed speeds before running out. Going into production this winter, the Radinn costs $19,375.
This new powered wakeboard showcases their work at their finest, being fast, agile, lightweight, maintenance free, excellent build quality and perfect for yacht or leisure use. Say goodbye to the noisy engines of previous powered surfboards and hello to the future.
The Flyboard is a water jet powered board which connects to all Jet-ski brands and allows underwater propulsion and flights of up to 12m in height. The Flyboard water hose is connected to the back of the Jet-ski and on the Basic Kit a second user controls the throttle which elevates the user on the Flyboard. With the additional Pro Throttle kit the Flyboard user can have complete control over the throttle and the Jet-ski simply follows wherever you go. With the Flyboard your feet are in boots which are attached to the board in a forward facing position.
The Flyboard is very intuitive: it’s like learning to walk. Find your balance and you will soon learn to fly! Around 15-20 minutes with an instructor are all you need to learn to fly on your own. The rider can fly at different heights depending upon the power of the Jet-ski, a 150hp Jet-ski allows the rider to fly up to 5-6m from the surface, a 250hp ski 10m plus.
Powered by either a 220hp (the JF220 model), or a 260hp (the JF260 model) 4-stroke engine the pod pumps water up through a 10m long hose into the jetpack, worn on the back of the rider. The rider is able to direct and control the speed of water coming out of the jetpack thus controlling height and direction achieving a stable and controlled flight, which can last for up to 2-3 hours. With a 10kg carbon frame the pack is light and easy to use with an intuitive throttle grip to control power.

Seabobs are high-performance electric watercrafts that allow the user to ride on the surface and underwater at speeds of up to 20kph. The Seabob is now available in 3 models: the Cayago F7, the most powerful model capable of 16kph underwater and 22kph on the surface; the F5S – lighter but it retains the excellent driving performance and the F5 – the lightest model available, which gives it a high level of manoeuvrability and performance and makes it suitable for pool complexes. Seabobs can be used with or without dive gear.
It’s a hovercraft, but not like anything you’ve ever seen before. Inspired by the world’s exciting supercars – the Bugatti Veyron, Maserati Gran Turismo and Audi R8 – the sleek, low-profiled two-seater by Mercier-Jones is being called the world’s first supercar-hovercraft hybrid.
Due to go on sale in a limited edition of ten in May this year, the 2015 Supercraft can speed over water and land at speeds of upto 40mph. Powered by a 60hp gas engine and 40hp electric motor, the open cockpit speedster is made in carbon fibre with a custom wood interior.
If you’re cruising in extreme landscapes, there are additional packages that will adapt the Supercraft to challenging terrains: opt for the Desert Tundra, Swamp Tundra or Arctic Tundra Package. And if you’re somewhere more relaxing and want to share the experience with friends on board, the standard version has hands-free, Bluetooth and wireless capabilities.
Hovercraft are advanced vehicles that can travel over land, water and a variety of terrain in between. They do this by traveling on a cushion of air and essentially fly right above the surface. The air cushion is suspended inside a flexible reinforced fabric skirt which helps compensate for changes in terrain and gives clearance for obstacles.
The Mercier-Jones Supercraft not only looks like a high-end sports car, it will perform like one too . The innovative, patent-pending directional control system enables advanced maneuverability in the forward, lateral and reverse directions, so you can stop and go with ease. Intuitive pilot inputs will make flying the hovercraft easy to learn and enjoy.
