The ISAF Nations Cup Asian Regional Final got underway with the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association (BMSA) at Al Jazzeer Beach with an impending forecast of a Shamal wind and rough seas.

The event opened a day earlier under the watchful eye of PRO Mohamed Afendy (MAS) IRO in the well maintained match fleet of J24s supplied by BMSA. In steady 10-15 knots and temperatures rising to 38-39deg C the battle commenced between the local favourite Ebrahim Abdulla (BRN) and the young team of Kohei Ichikaw (JPN).

In the opening round robin Ichikaw narrowly established a 4-3 lead. On the second day with winds gathering to over 20 knots from the NW with the emerging Shamal winds the second round robin producing stunning sailing conditions in the bright sun and short seas.

After a third day resting ashore with winds of over 30knots the final day and final hours allowed the completion of the 3rd round robin in 22-25 knot winds and a big sea. Ichikaw (JPN) with a young crew and sailing 5 up relished the conditions to narrowly establish dominance to win the event over the strong popular local team of Ebrahim Abdulla (BRN).

In bright sunny conditions the prizegiving took place in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador and Sheikh salman bin ebrahim al Khalifa
(Vice president of Bahrain Olympic Committee) and
Sheikh khalifa bin abdulla al Khalifa (President BMSA and the Arab Sailing Federation)
