The Miami Worldcup, second event of the World Sailing 2016 Worldcup Series, was concluded yesterday with the Medal Races, sailed in a light wind.
Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA, winning this last race, earned the Gold Medal in the 470 men. Mantis/Kagialis GRE and Barreiros/Curbelo ESP follow on the ranks 2 and 3. A surprise were the final results in the 470 women, where Sasha Chen/Haiyan Gao CHN, 3rd in the Medal Race, finished on top overall, as the leading duo Vadlau/Ogar AUT and Oliveira/Barbachan BRA sailed each other down the fleet on the ranks 8 and 10, and with this on 2 and 3 in the final rankings.
Botin/Lopez ESP finished on top of the 49ers ahead of Lima/Costa POR and Sylvan/Anjemark SWE. Alexandra Maloney/Molly Meech NZL had their first position in the 49erFX already before the Medal Race, and Jena Mai-Hansen/Katja Salskov DEN and Lisa Ericson/Hanna Klinga SWE completed the podium.
Jorge Zarif BRA defended his first place in the Finns in the Medal Race. Jonas Hoegh-Christensen DEN finished 2nd, Arkadij Kistanov RUS Medal Race winner, advanced on rank 3. Bad luck for the leading duo in the Nacra 17 as Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS had were relegated to the end of the fleet after a boat contact during the start, while Matia Bühler/Nathalie Brugger SUI touched the first upwind mark and lost the contact with the best. Mandy Mulder/Coen De Koning NED finished finally surprisingly on top, at equal points with the Australians. Bühler/Brugger SUI took the Bronze Medal.
No change among the best RS:X windsurfers. The Olympic Champion Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED ahed of Nick Dempsey GBR and Aichen Wang CHN was the final podium. In the RS:X windsurfers, it was Bryony Shaw GBR who stayed on top ahead of Lilian de Geus NED and Peina Chen CHN.
