10. Master and Commander – The Far Side of the World (2003)

It’s 1805, before the death of Napoleon, and the frigate HMSSurprise, off the Brazilian coast, has received orders to sink or take as a prize French privateer Acheron. The hunter and hunted switch roles in a cat and mouse chase off the coast of South America before a final battle brings the story to a bloody end.

It is a very well produced and convincing story directed by Peter Weir with a well-documented attention to historical detail. It is a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat for over 2 hours. The precise detail and dramatic story line make this one of our top recommended nautical films.
